I should make clear in the post, that I'm talking about his latest book, not his ignorance on theological issues... (mormonism, etc.) However, it's more fun to just let the pot boil a little.

As for most things, I try not to make a judgement on someone's ideals unless I've taken a good look at the whole sheebang. But I will say, from what I've heard from his "sermons," and from what I've read from his books, I think he's alright. More than that, I think he gets it where other great preacher hot-shots are missing it.

Just my opinion, but I think I can back it up.

Vitamin Z, I'm listening now, and ripping their convoluted, straw-men based, unorganized, haughty, biased, out-of-context arguments to shreds.

Thanks for the link. I wondered where I should start. I'll start with this interview.

I'm sure I would like these guys if I met them, but they sure seem like a bunch of arrogant ... ... as of now.

I'm really tired of arrogant preachers who are jealous of Joel, who criticize Joel for encouraging people to go to college, or to get a good Job, or to get out of debt, and then offer seminars at their big fancy Baptist churches on how to get out of debt... and then charge the person to take the friggin class!!!!!! I'm tired of people who criticize Joel for telling people that God wants them to have a good job, and then turn around and go to work every day at their six-figure job. And guess who they turn to when they loose their job? So do they believe that God gives them a good Job or not? If they don't, then don't ask the Lord when you loose yours.

A sidenote: I have nothing to gain for defending Joel. I'm not publishing a book, or trying to win converts. I'm just looking at what he is saying, THE WHOLE MESSAGE, for what it is. There are some things that I disagree with, but most things, thus far, I don't see what the hell the problem is.

Sorry if that last comment came off a tad harsh. I'm just sick of the onslaught. I've heard the arguments, and then I turn on the tv and expect to see some heritical megalomaniac and all I see instead is a guy preaching things like, "God is Good," or that "God Loves you," or that "God has forgiven you," or that "With God's help, You can live a better life..." Mostly mad that they don't give they guy a fair shake. They take things out of context, almost every single time.

I'm tired of it I tell ya!

Boy, you've really stepped in it this time, Seth.

But I think I'll wait for your actual arguments before I shoot them down.

I agree. Those cats come off as arrogant sometimes. I have the same critique of them. I have learned a bit from those White Horse dudes as well.

I have listened to Joel a bit on TV. Have not read the books.

I do look forward to your interaction with them.

I like what they say about Joel's message being a different form of legalism. You have to DO all this stuff to be a better you, as opposed to resting in what Christ has DONE. Very different motivations going on there.

Much more to say... not enough time.
